Clemson hands UM worst loss in school history

It didn't take very long for the Hurricanes to see just how overmatched they were.

Clemson took the opening drive of the game and needed a little less than three minutes to march down the field, score its first touchdown of the day and set the tone for a rout and an embarrassment the likes of which Miami hasn't experienced in years — since its last game at the Orange Bowl, actually.

The sixth-ranked Tigers scored 42 points in the first half, totaled 567 yards of offense on the day and their defense thoroughly dominated the Hurricanes, humbling Miami in a 58-0 loss at Sun Life Stadium that marked the biggest loss of Al Golden's five-year tenure at the school.

It was actually the biggest loss in program history, surpassing the 56-point victory Texas A&M recorded in its 70-14 win over the Hurricanes in 1944.

Tennessee is looking good at Alabama tied at 7 just before halftime.  This was supposed to be a 14 point spread.

UM fires coach Al Golden day after 58-0 debacle

When he was hired, the hope was that Al Golden could get Miami’s football program back on track.

Four and a half seasons and several embarrassing losses later, that hasn’t proven to be the case and now, once again, the Hurricanes will again be looking for a new coach after Golden was fired Sunday evening.

In a release issued by the school, Miami announced it has named tight ends coach Larry Scott the interim coach, effective immediately.

Golden, who previously coached at Temple, had a 32-25 career record with Miami, which is now looking to hire its fourth head coach since 2001, the year in which the Hurricanes last won a national title.
